This is what happens when you move and don’t get internet for a month. It’s too bad too because it has been a very eventful 4-5 weeks since I’ve really posted. Here are a few of the things that have happened:
New Place
We moved from Provo up to American Fork to a bigger place with some actual storage. We’re 20 minutes closer to Salt Lake, have a huge selection of stores and restaurants close by, and a view of Timpanogos right out our front door. My favorite part is that we’re only 5 miles from the mouth of American Fork canyon and its amazing terrain and scenery. I’ve been able to get out biking a lot more, road and mtn. It’s also a perfect setup for taking the Alpine Loop as a commute into work.
Tibble Climb
The Tibble Fork downhill in AF canyon is one of the best rides out there. Don’t believe me? Take it up with Fatty, he calls it “The Best Place in the World” to mountain bike. The trail drops 2,000 ft in 3 miles, so I had always ridden it as a downhill, which according to Fatty is reprehensible. I never figured you could climb it until I read Fatty’s post, then I watched the video in this post showing the full loop. I made a comment along the lines of how crazy these guys were and Rick pushed me to just go and do it. I made a goal to climb this trail by the end of the year, thinking I might do it in October or so, but just about a week after making the goal, I had a day where I was in a particularly bad mood and I knew I had to get out and release somehow, so I went and did the climb.
I started the trail angry and with a lot of energy, it helped that it was getting dark so I knew I had a time crunch. Ella wasn’t so angry:

Happy Girl
The trail was in perfect condition which made for very good traction on the steeper parts.

Buffed Trail
I hit the top as the sun was setting, so I couldn’t take much time to rest before turning around and bombing the full 3 miles in almost full darkness.

Joy
It’s amazing what a ride like this can do to lift your spirits and wear you out so you don’t have the energy to be in a bad mood anymore. Especially when it means you’ve accomplished a task you didn’t think you could do before. I’m just saying I’m pretty darn proud of myself for riding up this thing, and Tibble will never be the same unless I do each time.
Ruth Lake
I had read about a short hike to a beautiful lake in the Uintas on KanyonKris’ blog. So we took a nice Sunday afternoon in August to head up the Mirror Lake Highway in the Uintas and hike in to Ruth lake and have a picnic.

Happy Sol
Thanks for the post Kris, this really is a perfect short family hike.
Tour of Utah
A bunch of us went to watch the Tour of Utah’s mountain top finish on the Nebo loop during Thursday’s stageof the race. On the way up we passed a beautiful (bearded) lady making her way up the course in a mumu along with the other spandex-clad riders.
We waited at the summit, the riders coming by were capping off a 77-mile day with a climb of almost 5,000 ft in the last 20 miles.

Francisco Mancebo, overall winner of the ToU
We watched some legends come by like Dave Zabriskie, Floyd Landis, and Francisco Mancebo. We met and got autographs from Landis and Mancebo, both very kind and generous.
Other
Megan and I took a nice trip through Colorado over Labor Day and I just finished the Yuba triathlon yesterday, i’ll cover both of those in separate posts. Other than that, we’ve just spent a lot of time staying busy and spending time with family, it’s been a great summer.
